Running Dreams

Fleeing.
Escaping.
Running away from the
Creatures in my nightmares,
Breathlessly striving to
Stay one step ahead.
Darting aimlessly, zig zagging
To evade the faceless phantoms
That haunt me, hunt me down.
Startled, I awake on the back step,
Soaked in sweat, heart racing in my chest.
For one more night,
I have outrun my demons.

  1. I find running dreams to be the scariest kind of nightmare you could have. You don’t know if you’re going to make it or not (and most times you never do find out, because you wake up and don’t remember). I haven’t had one in a while.
